Opportunities, not violence,
Resources not deserts,
Humanize my community

The People's Campaign

Greetings,

My name is Marvina Haynes, and I am proud to announce my candidacy for Minneapolis City Council in Ward 4. I’m running to bring transformative change to our community—centered on equity, resources, and ensuring that every voice is heard.

I was born at Hennepin County Medical Center and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I have worked for Minneapolis Public Schools and served as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). I was also a small business owner. However, I had to make the difficult decision to give up my business and career to advocate for my brother, a journey that ultimately left me homeless. Through that challenging time, I gained a deeper understanding of the systemic gaps in our city and the urgent need for bold leadership.

As a mother to a bright and artistic child, I know how vital it is to create opportunities that allow our children to thrive. My personal and professional experiences have deepened my passion for building a city that prioritizes education, creativity, and the well-being of every family.

Despite these challenges, I remained dedicated to serving our community. I’ve held leadership roles as a founder, CEO, executive director, and activist. These experiences have shaped my skills in organizing, strategic planning, media advocacy, and coalition building. I’ve led protests, organized events, and worked tirelessly to fight for justice and equity.

Ward 4 has incredible strength and potential, and I’m committed to ensuring every resident has the resources and opportunities they deserve. I know what it means to struggle, and I also know what it means to fight for change. Together, we can create a community built on opportunities, not violence; resources, not deserts; and humanity over division.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about my vision. I want to hear from you about the changes you’d like to see in our community.

Best,
